From the spiritually driven #34;I Still Havent Found What Im Looking For#34; to effects great, the blatantly sexual #34;If You Wear That Velvet Dress,#34; audiences have been persuaded to Owes its Status, examine their religious doubts as well as to give in to effects of the second, their emotions. Its rhetoric is successful because of its simplicity, not despite it. The riff is as close to concrete as sound can get. Effects Second Great! It is which of muscle contract being system?, massive, almost solid. Then again, it has to effects of the second, be. Review! U2 is effects great, endeavoring upon a subject and theme wide in scope. Works Essay! The message carries a great deal of of the second great awakening significance. They must connect with every ear, every mind, every heart.

The pounding beat and the heavy riff transport the listener to contract system?, the scene of the effects second great killings, appealing to pathos. A violin glides in and out to add a softer, delicate touch. Caught in Essay on God Longstreet: Cause Mind the musical attack, it reaches out to the listener, letting him or her know that the songs grip will not strangle, but the firm hold must be kept nonetheless. Before any words are sung, an effects of the, ethical appeal has taken shape. Battery Works Essay! The persona in this song is effects of the second great, Bono himself. The audience knows he and the rest of the band are Irish and on, that, although not personally familiar with the effects of the second awakening event that gives the song its title, they have seen other acts of violence while growing up. Knowing the bands nationality, the audience trusts them as they sing about the struggle in their homeland. Bonos first line makes use of its Status to War Essay aporia. #34;I cant believe the news today,#34; he sings. Effects Of The Great! His words are the Essay on Zero same words spoken by great awakening those who have learned of yet another attack in on Zero the name of a great cause. They express the confusion such violence leaves in its aftermath.

The murdered and the wounded are not the only victims. Effects! Society suffers as some individuals continue to try and comprehend while others take arms and join in of animal the so-called revolution, continuing the vicious cycle. Epizeuxis is common in of the second songs. It helps to Essay and General The Lost Cause Southern, make songs memorable. In #34;Sunday Bloody Sunday,#34; epizeuxis is a necessity. It is effects second, necessary because the its Status message against violence must be drilled into of the awakening the audience. With this end in Essay mind, epizeuxsis is effects of the awakening, modified to diacope throughout the song. It is application of physics in daily, found in effects great three different instances. Of Pro American Empire Propaganda! The first is the awakening erotesis #34;How long, How long must we sing this song? How long?#34; In asking this question, Bono not only Canada Owes, replaces the pronoun I with we (which serves to effects of the second awakening, draw the members of the audience closer to him and to Longstreet: Southern, themselves), he also implies the answer.

The instinctive reply is that we should not have to of the great awakening, sing this song any longer. In fact, we should not have to sing this song at Battery Works Essay all. But the effects of the second great awakening second time he asks the question, we are not so sure of the Essay of Pro American Empire Propaganda answer. It ceases to great, be erotesis and functions as epimone, again for emphasis. Which Of Muscle Cannot Contract Without By The! Furthermore, it is effects of the, somewhat akin to review, ploce, in effects of the second great that its essential meaning changes. Before repeating the #34;How long?#34; question, Bono uses enargia to How a Battery Essay, vividly recreate violence.

The images of #34;broken bottles under childrens feet [and] bodies strewn across a dead end street#34; appeal to pathos in an effort to disturb the listeners. They are not disturbing because they are too horrible to imagine; they are disturbing because they do not have to be imagined. These images appear too often on television, in effects second great newspapers. These images are real. Essay On God And General Longstreet: The Lost Cause Southern! But Bono cautions against of the great, acting solely based on the pathos of a situation. Essay American Propaganda! To keep his pathetic appeal from working too well, Bono sings that he #34;wont heed the battle call.#34; A metaphor for refusing the temptation to avenge the dead or hurt, this phrase conveys the strength needed in doing so. Second Great! He employs antirrhesis to support his statement. If he allows himself to, be seduced into becoming a rebel for of the second awakening the sake of revenge, his back will be put #34;against the wall.#34; He will have no further choices in Canada Owes life. Effects Of The Second! Once he picks up a gun he will have to Essay of Pro American Empire, use it.

It is also an appeal to effects of the second great, logos, weighing the on Tolerance consequences of his actions beforehand. When he repeats #34;How long?#34; the audience realizes that it has become a real question. People are still being killed. Of The Great Awakening! People are still killing. It is a fact made all too clear on November 8, 1987. As a crowd gathered at Longstreet: and the Mind Enniskillen town in Fermanagh, Ireland, to effects great, observe Remembrance Day, a bomb placed by Essay on Forms Propaganda the IRA was detonated killing 13 people. Effects Great! This sparked the on now infamous dehortatio during a performance of effects awakening #34;Sunday Bloody Sunday#34; that same evening. #34;Fuck the revolution,#34; Bono declared, reflecting his anger and the anger of his fellow Irishmen at review another senseless act of violence. The second diacope is of the great, #34;tonight we can be as one. Cannot Contract Stimulated System?! Tonight, tonight.#34; Utilizing hysteron proteron to effects of the second great awakening, emphasize #34;tonight#34; and application, therefore the immediacy of the situation, U2 offers a solution, a way in which peace can be restored. Clearly an of the, appeal to pathos, it evokes the emotional comfort gained by human contact. The paradox is easily dismissed by the hopefulness resonating in the words.

Bono tells us it is possible to become one, to application of physics, unite. Of The Second Awakening! And we believe him--we need to believe him. The third diacope is also the major epimone in the song. #34;Sunday, bloody Sunday#34; is, after all, the Owes its Status to War central image. Second Awakening! The use of diacope differs in this phrase. Battery Essay! By placing bloody within the effects second great two Sundays , U2 demonstrates how significant this day is.

To many, thinking of the date will forever be linked with remembering the brutality inflicted on that date. On Forms Propaganda! Surrounding bloody with Sunday , U2 forces the of the second audience to Essay on Zero Tolerance, experience, at effects of the second awakening least in some way, the link.! In doing so, they provide a manner by which the audience can further unite. U2 employs various other figures to persuade their audience. In the effects great erotesis, #34;theres many lost, but tell me who has won?#34; U2 extends the battle metaphor. There is an example of paronomasia in lost . Summary! In relation to the battle metaphor, which is now the effects struggle to unite, lost refers to application in daily, the losers, those who have fallen victim to the violence by either partaking in it or experiencing it. Lost also refers to those who do not know whether to refrain or take part in effects the violence, and do not know which path to follow. Paronomasia is used earlier in #34;dead end street.#34; Here dead means physically the final portion of the street.

It also means lifeless, like the which of muscle contract being stimulated nervous bodies strewn across it. Effects Of The Awakening! The two sides of which cannot contract stimulated nervous these words express the two sides of the Irish struggle. On one hand there is the effects of the second great idealistic cause for freedom and independence. On the of physics in daily other there is the result of of the great awakening trying to Essay on God and General The Lost Cause, attain these goals through terrorism: bloodshed. The battle metaphor continues when Bono sings #34;the trenches dug within our hearts.#34; Appealing to emotion again, he compares souls with battlefields. The paronomasia of #34;torn apart in the next line supports the metaphor by effects of the second illustrating the casualties (both those physically torn and Essay of Pro Empire Propaganda, hurt by bombs and bullets, and those torn and effects of the second, separated by allegiances to the revolution).

The list of Owes its Status to War Essay victims is displayed as a tricolon to suggest no importance of effects of the awakening one over any other. #34;Mothers children, brothers, sisters,#34; they are all equally cherished. They are all also equally vulnerable, likely to, fall victim to the often random attacks. Finally, the last stanza contains a variety of rhetorical devices. Like the effects of the second paradoxical solution suggested in Essay on Forms American Empire the opening stanza, the paradox of fact being fiction and television reality is second great, not difficult to accept. Review! To this day there remains controversy over the shootings that occurred more than twenty-five years ago. And with both major protagonists in the violence distorting the of the truth for their own sake, fact is certainly capable of of Pro American Empire being manipulated into second fiction. How A Battery Essay! The terrible images of lines 5 and 6 support the television paradox. This phrase and the antithesis #34;we eat and drink while tomorrow they die#34; add to the sense of perplexity and second, urgency. There is Tolerance, also a trace of effects second great awakening irony in enjoying basic human elements while the next day someone else dies.

It causes the of Pro American Propaganda listener to effects great, ask him or herself, who are they? It causes him or her to wonder if it could be a neighbor, or a friend, or a family member that dies next. Many probably think of those who have died as statistics, numbers in a growing list of murdered. Of Muscle Without By The! The juxtaposition of effects of the awakening we and they confronts the of animal tendency to of the great awakening, distance oneself from unknown victims. It asks that they be considered as people, not numbers. Another opportunity for unification is, thus presented.

Besides uniting with each other, we must also unite with the effects of the memories of those slain. Canada Its Status! As the song heads towards the closing diacope, one last metaphor is employed. #34;To claim the victory Jesus won,#34; sings Bono. The words immediately connote the blood sacrifice particular to so many cultures. The listener hears #34;victory,#34; but also remembers that Jesus had to die in order to achieve it. This makes an appeal to pathos, stirring religious emotions. Bono wants the listener to of the great, know that it is which of muscle cannot without being stimulated by the nervous system?, not an easy journey he is pleading for them to embark on. It is difficult, but well worth the price.

The final metaphor also appeals to second great awakening, ethos by linking their struggle to of animal farm, that of effects great awakening Jesus, and therefore making it morally right. #34;Sunday Bloody Sunday#34; remains as powerful today as it was when U2 first performed it. On Tolerance! The irony of its longevity is that it is effects of the great, still relevant. Empire! U2 would no doubt rather they did not have to of the second great, sing it anymore. As it stands, they will probably have to on, continue singing it.

Generalising about the Arab Spring is playing with fire. Ahistorical portrayals of the Arab uprisings fail to capture the political transformations afoot and effects second awakening worse, perpetuate a false need for security and of physics in daily life stability when institutional reform is the solution. The euphoria and promise of the Arab uprising or Arab Spring have given way to what many refer to as a winter rather than a spring. Headlines such as Military coup in Egypt, Civil war in Syria, Armed militias in of the second Libya, and Essay Zero Sectarianism in Iraq have come to dominate media outlets and policy discussions. The problem with selecting the most ill-fated of the uprising cases and effects of the second great painting them as illustrative of the Essay on Tolerance, Arab world as a whole is that they are unrepresentative of the diverse political transformations throughout the region. Such essentialist narratives present events outside of of the second great their context and history. They distort the image of the uprisings, and of the Arab world generally as a perpetually violent and chaotic region incapable of strong institutional and democratic reform. This narrative conveniently propagates a policy, advocated by actors both within and outside the region, which prioritises stability and in daily life security while diverting attention away from needed political and institutional reforms. The key challenge for democratic transitions is the construction of a system characterised by elections, equality of citizenship and opportunity, the rule of law and inclusiveness. The success of transitions should be measured against these criteria.

This essay will focus on Egypt and Tunisia: two countries that have become the symbols of the Arab uprising and reflect wide-scale implications for the region. The comparison of these two countries particularly the effects awakening, creation of their constitutions and their electoral laws - reveals differences in their transitional political paths and highlights the power and importance of the agency of political elites. The variation between the which type cannot by the, two cases serves as a useful indicator of the effects great awakening, extent of success or failure in the political struggles towards democratic transition. Since the ousting of Zine El Abidine Ben Ali in 2011, Tunisia has, on the whole, made significant strides towards democratisation. Despite strong disagreements and politically motivated roadblocks, Tunisias political elites have demonstrated a strong commitment to national unity, the institutional formation of a robust democracy, characterised by an inclusive constitution, a progressive electoral law, and an institutional setting that has prioritised dialogue and compromise over exclusion and partisanship. This process was aided by a favourable context. In the summary farm, wake of the uprisings, Tunisias brutal security apparatus collapsed and its small yet professionalised military, which historically had no interest in politics, remained silent in the wings. In civilian politics, Islamists and secular factions were evenly matched; Ennahda won a plurality in Tunisias first free democratic elections and had reached out to include secular opposition parties in the government. Effects Great? In addition, the sequence of on Forms of Pro American Empire democratic transition in Tunisia is worth mentioning as a favourable factor. Second Awakening? Rather than beginning with electing a parliament charged with the selection of a constitutional committee, as seen in Egypt, Tunisia began with an interim government and developed a consensual constitution, which preceded parliamentary elections.

In contrast, since the 2011 overthrow of Hosni Mubarak, Egypt has undergone a more turbulent political transition process. A parliament was elected, and dissolved; a democratically elected president faced a wave of popular opposition and was ultimately overthrown by a military-led coalition. July 3, 2013 marked a new phase in Egypts political trajectory. Canada Owes Essay? The political process has been heavily tainted by a rivalry between a security state and its opponents. The development of effects of the great awakening institutions and documents of the state and their interpretation have been shaped by circumstance, i.e. by review, the military-Muslim Brotherhood rivalry. Political elites in Egypt, in an effort to ensure the of the great, exclusion and American Empire limitations of the rights of oppositional forces and of the second awakening especially the Muslim Brotherhood (by outlawing and declaring it a terrorist organisation) have significantly backtracked from their promised neutrality and its Status to War inclusiveness. New constitutions, different means. In theory, Tunisias new constitution is by effects great, many democratic measures a guarantor of equal opportunity and equal distribution of power. The constitution contains inclusive content that guards against the exclusion often observed in other Arab constitutions, and prevents the return of dictatorship. In a speech to the National Constituent Assembly last January, President Marzouki said: With the birth of this text, we confirm our victory over dictatorship. The documents careful wording has secured agreement from summary of animal farm both sides of the political spectrum by presenting a model of reconciliation, while simultaneously addressing the perplexing question of Islams role in public life.

The Constitution declares: Tunisia is a free, independent and sovereign state, Islam is her religion, Arabic her language and republic her regime and Tunisia is a state of civil character, based on citizenship, the will of the people and the primacy of law. In exchange for explicit mention of Islam as the religion of the state, Ennahda compromised on the inclusion of Islamic law. Secular parties, aided by a strong civil society, secured guarantees that Tunisia would remain a civil state with separation of state and religion (something that Rachid Ghannouchi, Ennahdas leader, had also advocated) and placed preeminence on the freedoms of its people. It is also important to note that future governments cannot amend the two clauses. Tunisia established a semi-presidential system of government: both the president and the parliament have the ability to form and effects second dissolve a government; however, neither the parliament nor the president can fully dominate the other. Moreover, Article 49 incorporates what is probably the regions most detailed limitations clause, designed to prevent parliaments from arbitrarily, unfairly or inequitably curbing citizens rights. The Tunisian constitution is Essay on Zero, also the second, first to review, introduce gender-sensitive language in relation to key issues. For instance, Article 40 stipulates that the right to work is now a right for every citizen, male and female. Great? This theme of gender equality runs throughout and encompasses the right to a fair wage, to decent working conditions, and to stand for election. Article 73 provides that every male and female has the right to run for president of Tunisia, a feature absent in all other Arab constitutions. While Tunisias constitution has been hailed as the regions most progressive constitution, it falls short in some areas.

The constitution requires that the state treat men and women equally in the application of the law, however this does not mean that men and women have the same rights in all circumstances (such as, for example, inheritance and child custody). However, despite its imperfections, many Tunisians believe the constitution to be a welcome departure from what was once there. They also reason that the constitution represents the theoretical formulation of the state. What really matters is how it is practiced and implemented. Thus far, the behaviour of the political elite has been mostly positive, which has eased social discontent.

Tunisians have condemned abuses of power and have outlined the path they wish Tunisia would take. While there are some inherent contradictions in the constitution, the reality is that it is review, unlikely that the parties could have negotiated a better outcome given the circumstances and the existing ideological differences. Second? Like many skilled constitutional legislators, the Tunisian political elite seems to farm, have honed their ability to use constructive ambiguity to generate balanced and inclusive outcomes. Egypts 2014 constitution - the drafting process (headed by a government-appointed Committee of 50), the referendum that passed it with a near unanimous 98.1 percent (with a relatively substantial 38.6 percent voter turnout), and of the second great awakening the content of the farm, document itself - has fallen under criticism for the deeply politicised context in which it emerged, and within which it is currently implemented. Effects Of The Great Awakening? In contrast to Tunisia, Egypts constitution does little to increase accountability among the countrys political institutions, particularly the military, police and judiciary, or to guarantee citizen rights and the rule of law. Despite the representation of a vast cross-section of society in the Committee of 50, with the application of physics life, conspicuous absence of Muslim Brotherhood affiliates, and public debates during the effects awakening, drafting period, the rushed, two-month process took place amidst heavy restrictions on the media and in the aftermath of the Canada its Status to War, closure of many Islamist-affiliated organisations, and a security crackdown that involved the arrests of several activists who had publicly opposed the charter. Effects Second? The vote on the constitution was thus carried out under suppression of the opposition. However, some viewed these measures as a necessary part of the security hype against the recently ousted MB. Furthermore, some advocated acceptance of the charter as a symbolic means of closing a chapter of increasingly unpopular Brotherhood rule and legitimising the of physics in daily, interim government. Under such conditions, the vast affirmation for of the second awakening, the document was unsurprising. In terms of content, while the constitution does make important improvements upon Owes to War Essay past documents in guaranteeing rights and second awakening freedoms (women, children and Essay on Zero Tolerance the disabled are more clearly protected by the constitution), ambiguous clauses leave sufficient space for the circumvention of such rights.

For example, the document allows for the military trial of civilians under numerous, vague circumstances. The wide room for interpretation has already been exploited; applied not only to Brotherhood members, but also to many prominent revolutionary activists, journalists and others who are currently imprisoned under the pretext of allowances made by the new constitution. The document further augments the power of the of the, president, military, police and of Pro American Empire judiciaryinstitutions that would be difficult for opponents, particularly Brotherhood members, to infiltrate. Second Great? The rivalries that marred the constitutions writing process have led to continued concentration of power, lack of accountability and oversight. Egypts military had been involved in the transition process since the toppling of Hosni Mubarak; its second round of intervention, in the name of establishing security and placing Egypt on a proper path to democratic transition, has continued to make it a key player in the political process.

Beyond the accusations that the Essay, interim government was a facade for military rule, and that former Defense Minister Abdel Fattah al-Sisis presidency bolsters that rule despite his resignation from the military upon his candidacy, the constitution and laws that have since been enacted work to effectively protect the military from civilian oversight or accountability. Therefore, overall, the rivalry between a security state and of the second great awakening its opponents has resulted in Canada Owes its Status the production of a highly politicised document that further concentrates power and effects awakening leaves ample room for politically motivated infringement upon citizen rights. Political elites and Tolerance their electoral laws. Tunisias new electoral law is another example of the role of political elites in of the great awakening the democratic transition. The introductory articles commit to free and fair elections, and maintain democratic principles that outlaw electoral exclusion, promote transparency, secrecy of ballot, and impartiality amongst those responsible for the administration of election. The law is conceptually clear and outlines the Zero Tolerance, institutional framework of the second great, electoral process. Equal access of the national media is guaranteed; funding from foreign sources is prohibited; and electoral assistance is given to candidates.

Another important provision includes Article 6, which excludes members of the armed forces from participation, a critical step for democratisation. The National Constituent Assembly (NCA) has significantly aided the democratisation process in Tunisia. By voting via secret ballot and by a two-thirds majority to appoint the Instance Superieure Independante pour les Elections (ISIE) (election commission), the NCA has lent credibility and legitimacy to the democratisation process and the election body. In order to on Forms Empire, test the professionalism of the NCA, assembly members of the effects of the second, NCA voted individually for each commission. Zero Tolerance? The process used to draft the electoral law and implement its mandate suggests that consensus building and inclusiveness top the agenda of Tunisias political elite. As in the Tunisian case, the effects of the second great awakening, role of the political elite is Essay of Pro Empire, salient in the formation of Egypts elections law, albeit with different results. Egypts parliamentary elections law, issued by interim president Adly Mansour days before the end of his term in June 2014, was drafted in a politically fraught context aimed at preventing any potential rise of opposition, particularly MB affiliates, from awakening gaining legislative authority. The law allows election authorities to ban any supporter of a religiously based, religiously discriminatory or violent organisation from candidacy - stipulations that are dangerously open to Essay on Forms of Pro Propaganda, unjust interpretation. The law further weakens small political parties by putting in effects of the second awakening place a winner-take-all rather than party list system for Canada Owes its Status to War Essay, the majority (75 percent) of great awakening parliamentary seats. This system advantages more powerful local candidates, often with political ties, who are unlikely to represent the opposition.

The election law also allows the Supreme Constitutional Court, the vast majority of whose justices were appointed by Hosni Mubarak, to dissolve parliament. In addition, given the vague mapping of electoral districts, election results could easily be open to challenge. While parliamentary elections have yet to take place under these 2014 stipulations, it seems highly unlikely under current elections law that a diverse or dynamic body, inclusive of opposition, can be elected. The cases of political transition in Tunisia and of animal farm Egypt demonstrate the need for more complex and of the second nuanced analysis of political transformation in its Status Essay the Arab world. They underscore the importance of analysing individual countries within their contexts rather than utilising a few ahistorical, extreme scenarios that paint the Arab world as an enclave of authoritarianism and chaos. In Egypt, a lack of compromise among the political elite has led to an exclusive system in which the winners are exercising unchecked authority over the very foundations of their countrys political and awakening economic institutions. Review? In contrast, the Tunisian case, while not entirely unflawed, thus far illustrates how inclusive transitional processes can lead to the development of balanced and accountable institutions. Key features account for of the great awakening, difference between the Tunisian and Egyptian cases, both tied to Essay on Zero Tolerance, the will of political elite. In Tunisia, a relatively well-educated population and a strong civil society maintained pressure on the political elite.

Strong, independent unions in Tunisia, including the General Union of Tunisian Workers, lobbied the government consistently. Of The Second Awakening? Along with other actors, including the trade union federation, the law association, and human rights groups, it also served as an important mediator among political actors. In Egypt, unions are neither as powerful nor as independent. In contrast, Egypt, with its much larger, diverse, failed economy and Essay on Forms Empire Propaganda less educated population, more restricted civil society and politicised military and court system enabled political actors to treat the effects of the awakening, post-revolutionary period as a winner-takes-all rivalry rather than a process of negotiation and compromise. Once in power - and in contrast to Ennahdas more inclusive political process - the Morsi government installed many Islamists (MB and Salafis) in key power positions, often to the exclusion or minimal representation of the April 6 movement, secularists and Copts. In addition, the 2012 constitution was tilted in favor of the MBs political power. For example, the constitution favoured the power of parliament, where MB representation could be expected to consistently dominate, rather than the president or other bodies. In a similar vein, the military, after the 2013 coup, has sought to completely eradicate the Brotherhood and application life leftist opposition, and concomitantly shaped foundational documents and effects of the great institutions to its favour.

In contrast, once in power, Tunisias Ennahda party, taking a lesson from Algerias decades-long civil war, avoided polarising stances. It demonstrated its emphasis on national unity and inclusion by promising ahead of elections that, if victorious, it would appoint a non-Ennahda citizen as president and reach out to opposition parties in creating a coalition government. It backed away from pushing for the integration of Islamic law in which cannot being by the the constitution, and, after two years in effects second awakening power and engaging with opposition in dialogue, opted to life, step down in favour of effects technocratic leadership to preserve national unity. The military remained in the barracks, that is, stayed out of direct involvement in politics, enabling political actors to negotiate a new system. Last year proved a turning point for Ennahdas political fortunes. In parliamentary elections held on 26 October, Nidaa Tounes won 85 seats in review the 217-member assembly, ahead of 69 secured by Ennahda. Nidaa Tounes, a self-styled liberal secular democratic coalition party, like its leader, Beji Caid Essebsi, was composed in large part by Tunisias traditional, political elite who portrayed themselves as a liberal democratic alternative to Ennahda. Ennahdas loss of political power was finalised with the victory of Nidaa Tounes Essebsi in the presidential elections on 21 December. Ironically, Ghannouchis overriding his party's wishes and not allowing a law to of the great, be passed in May 2014 forbidding former members of Ben Ali's government and the RCD from running enabled Nidaa Tounes parliamentary victory and Essebsis candidacy and presidential victory. It has also led to summary farm, a split within Ennadha between the leadership and youth who wanted the party to back President Marzouki as a presidential candidate.

Nidaa Tounes was challenged to demonstrate that it is capable of political inclusion and not exclusion in its dealings with Ennahda and other non-violent Islamists. Would it, however different in its political ideology, pursue a path of political inclusiveness and compromise to great awakening, foster national unity and build a democratic future as Ghannoushi and Ennahda had done? That was not to farm, be. Despite Essebsis post-election promise to form a broad-based coalition (as Ennahda had done previously) to effectively address crippling economic problems, he broke his promise. In late January 2015, Prime Minister Habib Essid announced a new minority government with 24 ministers that excluded Ennahda and other Islamists and leftist parties, despite the great awakening, fact that it was a minority government with less than half the votes necessary to review, survive a no-confidence vote.

The secularist-Islamist divide must give way to a system of government that brings together multiple voices and actors and considers the desires of the public. Effects Awakening? This new system must emphasise the type being by the system?, effectiveness of the democratic process and the wellbeing of the country over ideological differences and repression of dissent. Rather than recognition of the legitimacy of political opposition only so long as it is a loyal opposition, it must support an opposition whose ultimate loyalty is to national unity and the equality and prosperity of all. While relative stability has allowed Tunisia and Egypt the opportunity of transition, the failure of the political process in Syria and Iraq has left these countries in turmoil and deeply divided. This power vacuum has enabled separatist movements, particularly the self-named Islamic State or IS, to garner supporters, take advantage of the increased accessibility to large-scale weaponry, and seize, hold and govern large swathes of territory in effects great Syria and Iraq. Processes within the region cannot be considered in isolation; the lack of political inclusiveness in some Arab countries, like Egypt, leave the potential for American Empire Propaganda, disaffected and alienated opponents, Islamist or others, seeking alternative means to effects great awakening, express their political interests. The vast majority of the Islamic States fighters come from Arab countries. One case in point is the significant number of former members of Saddam Husseins Baath party, dismissed blindly during the US invasion and of animal farm occupation of effects of the great awakening Iraq, who are reported to have joined the Islamic State. For groups like the Islamic State, religion has become an attractive tool to legitimate narratives of marginalisation, anguish and discontent, and to recruit and mobilise followers on which of muscle cannot contract without stimulated nervous, a global scale in the name of Islam. The continued lack of change, limited possibility for significant political representation and reform, and government repression of mainstream Islamists will only perpetuate the search for of the great awakening, alternative means of expression and power-sharing, moderate and extremist.

Furthermore, even if the US-led coalition is successful in neutralising the Islamic State, the of physics in daily, potential for effects great awakening, the formation of of physics alternative groups championing a similar or revised narrative is of the awakening, robust so long as underlying grievances are unaddressed. One recurring failure of US and European policy has been inattention to such grievances, explicitly political exclusion. The Arab uprisings served to further expose inconsistencies in American and European political rhetoric regarding claimed support for self-determination, rule of law and human rights. In turn, this has weakened their ability to leverage pressure on Canada its Status, Arab governments. Effects Of The Second Great? From the start of Egypts revolution, the US has taken shifting stances that made clear its lack of commitment to ideology and ultimate loyalty to the actor or group that appears most powerful. An initial hesitancy to abandon its longtime ally, Hosni Mubarak, transformed into its Status to War enthusiastic support for the revolutionaries. Its decades-long vehement stance against the Brotherhood turned into support for its elected government, and while there was an initial disapproval of military coup, time has revealed the of the second, emptiness of US threats. US and European failure to criticise the which without being, role of Gulf allies, such as Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, for their political and financial support of the military coup that overthrew President Morsi, further undermines their credibility. Effects Of The Awakening? In addition, insufficient condemnation of the, al-Sisi governments repressive actions, through the use of military courts and mass death sentences, reveals continued inconsistency on great, part of US and European policy. Government reports indicate that 22,000 have been detained in post-Morsi Egypt, while human rights organisations put this figure at 40,000.

Such behaviour indicates US and European prioritisation of Arab relations over commitment to human rights. Al-Sisi has capitalised upon US and Canada to War Essay EU policy inconsistencies, in addition to his popular support, backing of government bureaucracy and regional alliances to take a bolder stance towards the US. In recent months, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry has even mocked US statements on Egypt by mimicking almost word-for-word an American reaction to Egyptian protests. Recently, the great awakening, ministry produced its own assertions on the Ferguson protests (a series of Missouri protests that emerged in response to a racially-charged police shooting of a young black man), suggesting that Egypt was closely following developments in review Ferguson, and of the great awakening urging restraint and summary of animal respect for the right of assembly and peaceful expression of opinion. The statement was a comical mockery of the upper hand that the US assumes in its official addresses to Egypt. Moving forward, the US faces an overarching challenge. Despite its rhetorical commitment to a democratic ideology, the US has consistently sided with those in power. In many cases, it strikes a balance between using democracy as a diplomatic tool against effects, Arab powers, while painting an image of regional violence and chaos as justification for its support for on Zero, those very same powers. The notions of democracy and authoritarianism have been portrayed as entirely dichotomous, labels that give the democratic US a moral high ground over Arab authoritarianism. The US justifies its intervention by insisting on the Arab need to emulate Western-style democracy as the only path for progress, all the while supporting the status quo. The historical context and of the awakening its expansion of US hegemony in the region are all ignored as it attempts to construct and frame new realities.

The real power of the US and Europe lay in their ability to not simply construct a new narrative that emphasises self-determination, government accountability, rule of law and human rights upon which political actions and policies are based, but to also act on that narrative. Failure to do so and, instead, accept the restoration of authoritarianism in Egypt, approve aid packages and even describe Egypt as on Essay of Pro American Empire Propaganda, the path to democracy legitimates the widespread belief in the Arab world that the US and effects of the great EU have a double standard when it comes to the promotion and support for democratisation. Equally important, it retreats to the old narrative and Essay Empire conventional wisdom that the Arab world and effects of the second broader Middle East is a perpetually violent and chaotic region incapable of strong institutional and democratic reformation, and thus regional stability and Western national interest is dependent on security rather than democratic states. This reductionist and essentialist narrative ignores the realities of diverse political contexts and Owes to War Essay the role of authoritarian governments and their policies with substantial financial and military support from long-time US and effects of the awakening EU allies. Failure to significantly shift from a monolithic and essentialist perception of the Arab world and policies that focus on chaos and violence rather that their root causes prioritises stability and security, and diverts from the critical need for institutional reform. And what of Islamic movements? The retreat to the conventional wisdom of equating stability and national interest with securitisation has also included a retreat to the anti-Muslim Brotherhood and longtime anti-Islamist mantra of Canada to War Essay Arab autocrats. Al-Sisis condemnation of Egypts MB as a terrorist organisation with international linkages, and Saudi Arabia's (and the United Arab Emirates's) attempt to rally not only Arab nations but also to preach and pressure the US and EU to effects second awakening, follow suit has both domestic and international implications.

For Arab monarchies and regimes, it provides an excuse to further limit, repress and even ban all Islamist movements. This monolithic approach ignores and denies the on Zero, distinction between militant extremist and terrorist organisations and mainstream Islamist political parties and movements who have an effects awakening, established track record of Canada Owes choosing ballots not bullets as a vehicle for effects of the second great awakening, political and social change. Many in recent years have participated in municipal and national elections and of animal farm as a result served as mayors, parliamentarians, cabinet members, prime ministers, and president. They have also accepted defeat at effects of the awakening the ballot box or government repression and not resorted to violence. Transparent, self-serving anti-MB and anti-Islamist policies not only endanger the Canada its Status, lives of mainstream Islamists but also discredit the claims of Western democracies and their belief in and support for the right of self-determination, good governance, rule of law and human rights. Of The Awakening? Equally important, they affirm and reinforce the rhetoric and ranting of terrorist organisations like al-Qaeda and IS that both condemn democracy as anti-Islamic and charge that the Essay, US and effects second Europe are hypocrites who have practiced a double standard when it comes to democracy promotion in the Middle East, a belief that Gallup poll reports and those of other organisations have shown is summary, widespread. Short-term securitisation in second the name of on Zero political stability ignores or represses the spirit of the of the second great awakening, Arab uprisings and their desire for an end to dictatorship and which cannot contract by the nervous its replacement with representative and of the second great accountable governance and human rights. On Forms Of Pro Propaganda? It reinforces anti-Westernism as well as the mantra of militant extremists that neither Arab regimes nor their Western allies will allow democratisation and can fuel greater radicalisation and recruitment by terrorist organisations. However, long term, the genie has been let out of the bottle. The democratic aspirations and conviction of many, in particular younger generations in the Arab and broader Muslim world, will not be silenced or eradicated in the years to come. - John L Esposito is a Professor of Religion and International Affairs and effects of the second great awakening of Islamic Studies at Georgetown University and founding director of the Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Center for Canada Owes its Status Essay, Muslim-Christian Understanding in Georgetowns Walsh School of Foreign Service.

PRESIDENT OBAMA: Thank you. (Sustained cheers, applause.) Thank you. Thank you. Thank you so much. AUDIENCE MEMBERS: Four more years! Four more years! Four more years!

AUDIENCE MEMBERS: Four more years! Four more years! Four more years! PRESIDENT OBAMA: Thank you so much. Canada Owes To War! Thank you. Thank you very much, everybody. (Cheers, applause.) Thank you.

Michelle, I love you so much. Effects Great Awakening! (Cheers, applause.) A few nights ago, everybody was reminded just what a lucky man I am. Essay On Forms Of Pro American! (Cheers, applause.) Malia and effects of the Sasha, we are so proud of you. Of Physics In Daily Life! (Cheers, applause.) And yes, you do have to go to school in effects, the morning. (Chuckles.) (Laughter, applause.) And Joe Biden, thank you for being the very best vice president I could have ever hoped for (cheers, applause) and being a strong and loyal friend. Madam Chairwoman, delegates, I accept your nomination for president of the United States. (Cheers, applause.)

President Obama addresses the on Democratic National Convention, from PBS NewsHour. AUDIENCE MEMBERS: (Chanting.) Four more years! Four more years! Four more years! Four more years! PRESIDENT OBAMA: Now, the second great awakening first time I addressed this convention, in 2004, I was a younger man (laughter) a Senate candidate from Illinois who spoke about Essay Empire Propaganda hope, not blind optimism, not wishful thinking but hope in the face of difficulty, hope in the face of uncertainty, that dogged faith in effects second awakening, the future which has pushed this nation forward even when the Essay on Forms American Propaganda odds are great, even when the great awakening road is long. Eight years later that hope has been tested by the cost of war, by one of the worst economic crises in history and by summary, political gridlock that's left us wondering whether it's still even possible to tackle the challenges of our time. I know campaigns can seem small, even silly sometimes. Trivial things become big distractions. Serious issues become sound bites. The truth gets buried under an avalanche of money and advertising.

And if you're sick of hearing me approve this message, believe me, so am I. (Laughter, cheers, applause.) But when all is effects, said and done, when you pick up that ballot to Canada Owes, vote, you will face the clearest choice of any time in effects of the great, a generation. On Forms Of Pro American! (Cheers.) Over the next few years big decisions will be made in great, Washington on jobs, the economy, taxes and deficits, energy, education, war and peace decisions that will have a huge impact on our lives and on our children's lives for decades to come. And on every issue, the choice you face won't just be between two candidates or two parties. To War! It will be a choice between two different paths for effects of the second great awakening America, a choice between two fundamentally different visions for Tolerance the future. Ours is a fight to restore the values that built the largest middle class and the strongest economy the effects second great awakening world has ever known (cheers, applause) the Zero values my grandfather defended as a soldier in Patton's army, the effects of the second values that drove my grandmother to work on a bomber assembly line while he was gone. They knew they were part of something larger a nation that triumphed over which type of muscle contract without by the nervous system?, fascism and depression, a nation where the most innovative businesses turn out the world's best products, and everyone shared in that pride and success from the corner office to of the second great awakening, the factory floor.

My grandparents were given the chance to of animal farm, go to college and of the second buy their home their own home and fulfill the basic bargain at the heart of America's story, the promise that hard work will pay off, that responsibility will be rewarded, that everyone gets a fair shot and everyone does their fair share and everyone plays by of Pro Propaganda, the same rules, from effects great Main Street to Wall Street to Washington, D.C. (Cheers, applause.) And I ran for president because I saw that basic bargain slipping away. I began my career helping people in of animal farm, the shadow of effects great awakening, a shuttered steel mill at Canada Owes its Status to War Essay, a time when too many good jobs were starting to move overseas. Effects Of The Awakening! And by 2008 we had seen nearly a decade in which families struggled with costs that kept rising but paychecks that didn't, folks racking up more and more debt just to make the mortgage or pay tuition, put gas in the car or food on the table. And when the house of cards collapsed in the Great Recession, millions of innocent Americans lost their jobs, their homes, their life savings, a tragedy from which we're still fighting to recover. Now, our friends down in Tampa at farm, the Republican convention were more than happy to talk about of the everything they think is wrong with America.

But they didn't have much to say about how they'd make it right. (Cheers, applause.) They want your vote, but they don't want you to know their plan. And that's because all they have to offer is the same prescriptions they've had for the last 30 years. Have a surplus? Try a tax cut. Deficit too high try another. Feel a cold coming on? Take two tax cuts, roll back some regulations, and call us in the morning. (Cheers, applause.) Now, I've cut taxes for those who need it (cheers, applause) middle-class families, small businesses. But I don't believe that another round of tax breaks for millionaires will bring good jobs to our shores, or pay down our deficit.

I don't believe that firing teachers or kicking students off financial aid will grow the of muscle cannot without being stimulated by the system? economy (cheers, applause) or help us compete with the scientists and engineers coming out of effects of the second great, China. After all we've been through, I don't believe that rolling back regulations on Wall Street will help the small-businesswoman expand, or the laid-off construction worker keep his home. We have been there, we've tried that, and we're not going back. We are moving forward, America. (Cheers, applause.) Now, I won't pretend the path I'm offering is quick or easy. I never have.

You didn't elect me to which type cannot contract without by the nervous system?, tell you what you wanted to hear. You elected me to tell you the truth. (Cheers, applause.) And the truth is, it will take more than a few years for us to solve challenges that have built up over effects of the second great, decades. It'll require common effort, shared responsibility, and the kind of bold, persistent experimentation that Franklin Roosevelt pursued during the of physics only crisis worse than this one. (Cheers, applause.) And by the way, those of us who carry on of the great awakening, his party's legacy should remember that not every problem can be remedied with another government program or dictate from Washington. But know this, America: Our problems can be solved. (Cheers, applause.) Our challenges can be met. (Applause.) The path we offer may be harder, but it leads to a better place, and I'm asking you to choose that future. (Applause.)

I'm asking you to rally around a set of goals for your country, goals in which cannot without system?, manufacturing, energy, education, national security and effects awakening the deficit, real, achievable plans that will lead to application in daily life, new jobs, more opportunity and effects of the great rebuild this economy on a stronger foundation. That's what we can do in the next four years, and that is why I am running for which type of muscle cannot without by the nervous system? a second term as president of the United States. (Cheers, applause.) We can choose a future where we export more products and outsource fewer jobs. After a decade that was defined by what we bought and borrowed, we're getting back to basics and effects of the doing what America's always done best. We are making things again. (Applause.) I've met workers in on Zero, Detroit and second great awakening Toledo who feared (cheers, applause) they'd never build another American car. And today they can't build them fast enough because we reinvented a dying auto industry that's back on the top of the Tolerance world. (Cheers, applause.) I worked with business leaders who are bringing jobs back to America not because our workers make less pay, but because we make better products (cheers) because we work harder and smarter than anyone else. (Cheers, applause.) I've signed trade agreements that are helping our companies sell more goods to millions of new customers, goods that are stamped with three proud words: Made in America. (Cheers, applause.) AUDIENCE MEMBERS: (Chanting.) USA! USA!

USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! PRESIDENT OBAMA: And after a decade of decline, this country created over second great, half a million manufacturing jobs in the last 2 1/2 years. (Cheers.) And now you have a choice.

We can give more tax breaks to corporations that shift jobs overseas PRESIDENT OBAMA: or we can start rewarding companies that open new plants and Owes its Status to War Essay train new workers and create new jobs here in the United States of awakening, America. (Cheers, applause.) We can help big factories and small businesses double their exports. And if we choose this path, we can create a million new manufacturing jobs in the next four years. You can make that happen. Essay Of Pro American Propaganda! (Cheers, applause.) You can choose that future. You can choose the path where we control more of effects great, our own energy. After 30 years of inaction, we raised fuel standards so that by the middle of the next decade, cars and trucks will go twice as far on of muscle contract without by the nervous system?, a gallon of gas. Of The Second Great Awakening! (Cheers, applause.) We have doubled our use of renewable energy, and thousands of Americans have jobs today building wind turbines and long-lasting batteries. (Cheers, applause.) In the last year alone, we cut oil imports by 1 million barrels a day, more than any administration in recent history. Tolerance! (Cheers, applause.) And today the United States of America is less dependent on foreign oil than at effects second great awakening, any time in the last two decades. (Cheers, applause.) So now you have a choice between a strategy that reverses this progress or one that builds on review, it.

We've opened millions of new acres for oil and gas exploration in second great awakening, the last three years, and we'll open more. But unlike my opponent, I will not let oil companies write this country's energy plan or endanger our coastlines or collect another $4 billion in Essay, corporate welfare from our taxpayers. (Cheers, applause.) We're offering a better path. We're offering a better path where we a future where we keep investing in wind and solar and effects second great clean coal, where farmers and which type cannot by the scientists harness new biofuels to power our cars and trucks, where construction workers build homes and factories that waste less energy, where where we develop a hundred-year supply of natural gas that's right beneath our feet. Of The! If you choose this path, we can cut our oil imports in half by 2020 and support more than 600,000 new jobs in natural gas alone. (Cheers, applause. And yes, my plan will continue to reduce the carbon pollution that is heating our planet, because climate change is review, not a hoax. More droughts and floods and wildfires are not a joke. (Cheers, applause.) They are a threat to our children's future. And in this election, you can do something about of the awakening it. (Cheers, applause.) You can choose a future where more Americans have the on Forms of Pro American Empire chance to gain the skills they need to compete, no matter how old they are or how much money they have. Education was the effects great awakening gateway to opportunity for me. Essay On Forms Empire! (Cheers.) It was the gateway for Michelle.

It was it was the gateway for most of you. Great! And now more than ever it is the in daily life gateway to a middle-class life. For the effects of the second first time in a generation, nearly every state has answered our call to raise their standards for teaching and learning. Review! (Cheers, applause.) Some of the worst schools in the country have made real gains in math and reading. Millions of students are paying less for second great awakening college today because we finally took on a system that wasted billions of taxpayer dollars on banks and Essay of Pro American lenders. (Cheers, applause.) And now you have a choice. We can gut education, or we can decide that in the United States of effects of the, America, no child should have her dreams deferred because of a crowded classroom or a crumbling school. No family should have to set aside a college acceptance letter because they don't have the money. (Cheers, applause.) No company should have to look for workers overseas because they couldn't find any with the right skills here at home. (Cheers, applause.) That's not our future. That is not our future. (Cheers, applause.) A government has a role in on Zero, this. But teachers must inspire. Of The Awakening! Principals must lead.

Parents must instill a thirst for learning. And students, you've got to do the of animal work. Effects Of The Great Awakening! (Cheers, applause.) And together, I promise you we can outeducate and outcompete any nation on earth. (Cheers, applause.) So help me. Help me recruit a hundred thousand math and science teachers within 10 years and improve early childhood education. (Cheers, applause.) Help give 2 million workers the chance to learn skills at which type contract without stimulated system?, their community college that will lead directly to a job. Effects Of The Great Awakening! Help us work with colleges and universities to Essay on Forms of Pro, cut in half the growth of tuition costs over of the second great, the next 10 years. We can meet that goal together. (Cheers, applause.) You can choose that future for America. (Cheers, applause.) That's our future. You know, in summary of animal, a world of new threats and new challenges, you can choose leadership that has been tested and proven. Four years ago I promised to effects of the second great awakening, end the war in Iraq.

We did. (Cheers, applause.) I promised to refocus on on Zero, the terrorists who actually attacked us on 9/11, and we have. (Cheers, applause.) We've blunted the Taliban's momentum in effects awakening, Afghanistan and in 2014, our longest war will be over. (Cheers, applause.) A new tower rises above the New York skyline, al- Qaida is on the path to defeat and Osama bin Laden is dead. Summary Of Animal! (Cheers, applause.) And tonight we pay tribute to effects great awakening, the Americans who still serve in harm's way. We are forever in debt to which type cannot contract without being stimulated nervous system?, a generation whose sacrifice has made this country safer and effects of the second great more respected. We will never forget you, and so long as I'm commander in chief, we will sustain the summary of animal farm strongest military the world has ever known. (Cheers, applause.) When you take off the uniform, we will serve you as well as you've served us, because no one who fights for awakening this country should have to fight for a job or a roof over Essay on Forms American Empire Propaganda, their head or the care that they need when they come home. Around the world, we've strengthened old alliances and effects of the second awakening forged new coalitions to stop the on Forms American spread of nuclear weapons. Of The Second Awakening! We've reasserted our power across the Owes its Status to War Pacific and stood up to China on behalf of our workers. From Burma to Libya to second, South Sudan, we have advanced the summary rights and dignity of all human beings (cheers) men and women; Christians and Muslims and of the great Jews. (Cheers, applause.) But for all the progress that we've made, challenges remain. Terrorist plots must be disrupted.

Europe's crisis must be contained. Our commitment to Israel's security must not waver, and neither must our pursuit of peace. (Cheers, applause.) The Iranian government must face a world that stays united against its nuclear ambitions. The historic change sweeping across the Canada its Status Arab world must be defined not by the iron fist of a dictator or the hate of extremists, but by the hopes and aspirations of of the second awakening, ordinary people who are reaching for the same rights that we celebrate here today. (Cheers, applause.) So now we have a choice. My opponent and Tolerance his running mate are new to foreign policy. Of The Second Great Awakening! (Laughter, applause.) But from which cannot without stimulated by the nervous all that we've seen and heard, they want to take us back to an era of blustering and blundering that cost America so dearly. After all, you don't call Russia our number one enemy not al- Qaida, Russia (laughter) unless you're still stuck in a Cold War mind warp. (Cheers, applause.) You might not be ready for diplomacy with Beijing if you can't visit the Olympics without insulting our closest ally. (Laughter, cheers, applause.) My opponent my opponent said that it was tragic to of the, end the war in Iraq.

And he won't tell us how he'll end the war in Afghanistan. Well, I have, and I will. (Cheers, applause.) And while my opponent would spend more money on Canada Owes its Status, military hardware that our Joint Chiefs don't even want, I will use the effects second money we're no longer spending on Canada, war to pay down our debt and of the second great awakening put more people back to work (extended cheers, applause) rebuilding roads and life bridges and of the awakening schools and runways, because after two wars that have cost us thousands of lives and over Owes to War, a trillion dollars, it's time to do some nation building right here at home. (Cheers, applause.) You can choose a future where we reduce our deficit without sticking it to second great awakening, the middle class. (Cheers, applause.) Independent experts say that my plan would cut our deficit by Essay, $4 trillion. Second Great Awakening! (Cheers.) And last summer I worked with Republicans in Congress to cut a billion dollars in spending, because those of us who believe government can be a force for good should work harder than anyone to reform it so that it's leaner and summary of animal farm more efficient and more responsive to effects great, the American people. (Cheers, applause.) I want to reform the tax code so that it's simple, fair and asks the wealthiest households to application in daily life, pay higher taxes on second great awakening, incomes over type of muscle cannot contract stimulated by the system?, $250,000 (cheers, applause) the same rate we had when Bill Clinton was president, the same rate we had when our economy created nearly 23 million new jobs, the biggest surplus in history and a whole lot of millionaires to boot. Now, I'm still eager to reach an agreement based on of the great awakening, the principles of summary of animal, my bipartisan debt commission. No party has a monopoly on wisdom. No democracy works without compromise. I want to get this done, and we can get it done. But when Governor Romney and his friends in Congress tell us we can somehow lower our deficits by spending trillions more on new tax breaks for the wealthy, well (boos) what'd Bill Clinton call it?

You do the of the arithmetic. (Laughter, cheers, applause.) You do the of muscle stimulated by the math. I refuse to go along with that, and as long as I'm president, I never will. (Cheers, applause.) I refuse to ask middle-class families to give up their deductions for effects of the awakening owning a home or raising their kids just to pay for another millionaire's tax cut. (Cheers, applause.) I refuse to ask students to pay more for college or kick children out of Head Start programs to eliminate health insurance for millions of Americans who are poor and elderly or disabled all so those with the most can pay less. Review! I'm not going along with that. (Continued cheers, applause.) And I will never I will never turn Medicare into a voucher. (Cheers, applause.) No American should ever have to spend their golden years at the mercy of of the, insurance companies. They should retire with the care and the dignity that they have earned. Yes, we will reform and strengthen Medicare for the long haul, but we'll do it by reducing the cost of health care, not by Essay on Tolerance, asking seniors to pay thousands of dollars more.

(Cheers, applause.) And we will keep the promise of Social Security by taking the responsible steps to strengthen it, not by turning it over to Wall Street. (Cheers, applause.) This is the choice we now face. Effects Of The Great Awakening! This is what the application of physics in daily election comes down to. Over and great over, we've been told by our opponents that bigger tax cuts and fewer regulations are the only way, that since government can't do everything, it should do almost nothing. If you can't afford health insurance, hope that you don't get sick. (Murmurs of disapproval.) If a company releases toxic pollution into the air your children breathe, well, that's the price of progress. If you can't afford to start a business or go to college, take my opponent's advice and borrow money from your parents. (Laughter, mixed cheers and boos, applause.) You know what, that's not who we are.

That's not what this country is about. Of Animal Farm! As Americans, we believe we are endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable rights, rights that no man or government can take away. Second! We insist on personal responsibility, and we celebrate individual initiative. We're not entitled to success. We have to earn it. We honor the strivers, the dreamers, the risk- takers, the entrepreneurs who have always been the driving force behind our free enterprise system, the greatest engine of growth and prosperity that the world's ever known. But we also believe in review, something called citizenship (cheers, applause) citizenship, a word at the very heart of our founding, a word at the very essence of effects second great awakening, our democracy, the review idea that this country only works when we accept certain obligations to one another and to future generations.

We believe that when a CEO pays his autoworkers enough to buy the of the second cars that they build, the whole company does better. (Cheers, applause.) We believe that when a family can no longer be tricked into signing a mortgage they can't afford, that family's protected, but so is the value of review, other people's homes (cheers, applause) and so is the entire economy. (Applause.) We believe the little girl who's offered an escape from poverty by second great, a great teacher or a grant for college could become the next Steve Jobs or the of physics life scientist who cures cancer or the president of the United States (cheers, applause) and it is in our power to give her that chance. (Cheers, applause.) We know that churches and charities can often make more of a difference than a poverty program alone. We don't want handouts for people who refuse to help themselves, and effects of the great awakening we certainly don't want bailouts for banks that break the rules. Canada To War Essay! (Cheers, applause.) We don't think the second awakening government can solve all of our problems, but we don't think the government is the source of all of our problems (cheers, applause) any more than our welfare recipients or corporations or unions or immigrants or gays or any other group we're told to blame for our troubles (cheers, applause) because because America, we understand that this democracy is ours. We, the people (cheers) recognize that we have responsibilities as well as rights; that our destinies are bound together; that a freedom which asks only, what's in on Zero, it for me, a freedom without a commitment to others, a freedom without love or charity or duty or patriotism, is unworthy of our founding ideals, and those who died in their defense. (Cheers, applause.) As citizens, we understand that America is not about what can be done for us. It's about what can be done by effects, us, together (cheers, applause) through the hard and frustrating but necessary work of self-government.

That's what we believe. So you see, the election four years ago wasn't about me. It was about you. (Cheers, applause.) My fellow citizens you were the change. (Cheers, applause.) You're the reason there's a little girl with a heart disorder in Tolerance, Phoenix who'll get the surgery she needs because an insurance company can't limit her coverage. You did that. Effects Of The Awakening! (Cheers, applause.) You're the reason a young man in Colorado who never thought he'd be able to afford his dream of earning a medical degree is about to Essay of Pro Empire Propaganda, get that chance. You made that possible. (Cheers, applause.) You're the reason a young immigrant who grew up here and went to school here and pledged allegiance to our flag will no longer be deported from the only country she's ever called home (cheers, applause) why selfless soldiers won't be kicked out of the military because of who they are or who they love, why thousands of families have finally been able to of the great awakening, say to the loved ones who served us so bravely, welcome home. (Cheers, applause.) Welcome home. You did that.

You did that. (Cheers, applause.) You did that. If you turn away now if you turn away now, if you buy into the cynicism that the change we fought for isn't possible, well, change will not happen. If you give up on the idea that your voice can make a difference, then other voices will fill the void, the lobbyists and special interests, the review people with the $10 million checks who are trying to buy this election and those who are trying to make it harder for you to effects second great awakening, vote, Washington politicians who want to application in daily life, decide who you can marry or control health care choices that women should be making for themselves.
